Misconceptions About Islam

Islam is one of the most talked-about religions in the world, but unfortunately, it’s also one of the most misunderstood. From media portrayals to cultural stereotypes, many misconceptions about Islam have spread over time, often overshadowing its true teachings of peace, justice, and compassion. In this section, we’ll tackle some of the most common myths head-on, using the Quran and authentic Hadiths to set the record straight. Quran 5:32

Islam Oppresses Women

Women in Islam have rights to education, work, and property—centuries before the West.

 “Live with them in kindness.”

Quran 4:19

Jihad Means Holy War

Jihad actually means “struggle,” like striving to be a better person.

“Whoever kills a soul… it is as if he had slain mankind entirely.”

Quran 5:32

Further Misconceptions About Islam

Did You Know?

Did you know? The word “Islam” comes from the same root as “salaam,” which means peace. So, Islam is all about finding peace through submission to Allah.

Who Is Allah?

Allah is the One and Only God, the Creator of everything in the universe. He is eternal, without beginning or end, and everything depends on Him, while He depends on nothing. Allah is Merciful, Just, and Loving, with 99 beautiful names (Asma ul-Husna) that describe His attributes, such as Ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful) and Al-Hakeem (The All-Wise). He is closer to us than our jugular vein (Quran 50:16), yet His greatness is beyond human comprehension. Allah has no partners, no children, and no equals—He is unique and unlike anything we can imagine.

“Say, ‘He is Allah, the One. Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent.'” Quran 112:1-4

“Allah is Merciful, Just, and Loving. He is closer to us than our jugular vein” Quran 50:16

Who is Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)?

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the final messenger of Allah, sent to guide humanity to the truth. Born in Mecca in 570 CE, he was known for his honesty and integrity, earning the title Al-Amin (the Trustworthy) even before receiving revelation. At age 40, he was chosen by Allah to deliver the Quran, the final divine message. His life was a perfect example of compassion, patience, and justice—whether he was comforting the poor, standing up for the oppressed, or forgiving his enemies. He taught humanity how to worship Allah, live with purpose, and build a just society.

“There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day.” Quran 33:21

He taught kindness, justice, and humility. Even his enemies described him as “truthful and trustworthy.”

What is the Quran?

The Quran is the literal word of Allah, revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) over 23 years through the Angel Jibreel (Gabriel). It is the final divine book, a guide for all of humanity, covering everything from faith and worship to morality, law, and even science. The Quran is unique because it has been preserved in its original Arabic text, unchanged since its revelation over 1,400 years ago. It’s not just a book to read—it’s a book to live by, offering wisdom, comfort, and guidance for every aspect of life.

This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah.‘” Quran 2:2
