NEW MUSLIM SUPPORT

ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّٰهِ

You have not arrived late.
You have begun.

Whether you accepted Islam today, some time ago, or are still considering it, you do not have to carry the journey alone. Begin with the next faithful step—not every step at once.

Questions are welcome No judgement Practical guidance

You are not expected to become perfect overnight

You may feel joy, relief, fear, loneliness, confusion—or no dramatic emotion at all. Those feelings do not decide the truth of your shahadah. Faith grows through knowledge, worship, repentance, character and time.

01

A clean beginning

Islam opens a new account with Allah. Do not let old sins convince you that you are unworthy of mercy.

Sahih Muslim 121
02

Allah knows your capacity

Allah does not require from a soul more than it can bear. Ask for help, learn steadily and be honest about where you are.

Qur’an 2:286
03

Small and steady wins

The most beloved deeds are the ones continued regularly, even when they seem small. Build a life, not a burst of pressure.

Sahih al-Bukhari 6465
04

You can always return

A mistake is not the end of the road. Turn back, ask forgiveness, repair what you can and continue.

Sahih Muslim 2747a

Allah is more merciful to His servants than a loving mother is to her child.

Sahih al-Bukhari 5999

Your first 24 hours

Do not wait to understand every detail before turning to Allah. Start with what is central, then keep learning.

Establish the connection

Begin learning prayer

The five daily prayers are the centre of a Muslim day. Begin learning immediately, but do not wait for perfect pronunciation before asking for help and practising.

Allah said: establish prayer for His remembrance.

Qur’an 20:14

Speak honestly

Make du‘a in your own language

You can speak to Allah now. Tell Him what you fear, what you hope for and what you do not yet understand.

O Allah, guide me, steady my heart, teach me what pleases You, forgive me and help me take the next right step.

The five obligatory prayers

Help me learn prayer
Fajr2before sunrise
Dhuhr4after midday
‘Asr4late afternoon
Maghrib3after sunset
‘Isha4at night

The numbers above are the obligatory units (rak‘ahs). Extra Sunnah prayers can be learned after the foundations are becoming stable.

Quick wudu guide
  1. Make the intention in your heart to purify yourself for prayer.
  2. Say Bismillah, then wash both hands three times.
  3. Rinse the mouth and nose three times.
  4. Wash the face three times.
  5. Wash the right arm, then the left, including the elbows, three times.
  6. Wipe the head once and wipe the ears.
  7. Wash the right foot, then the left, including the ankles, three times.
WATCH THE STEPS

How to perform wudu

Follow this clear, step-by-step demonstration as you practise the sequence above.

Next: learn the prayer This beginner-friendly video demonstrates the basic movements and recitations of Salah.

This is a concise Sunni learning guide. A trusted teacher can demonstrate it and explain any school-specific details.

What should I learn for salah first?
  • The prayer times and how to face the qiblah.
  • The movements: standing, bowing, prostrating and sitting.
  • Allahu Akbar and Surah al-Fatihah, one line at a time.
  • The short phrases said while bowing and prostrating.
  • The final sitting and salam.

Do not hide because you are still learning. The Prophet ﷺ taught people by showing them how to pray.

Sahih al-Bukhari 631

Do not let a hundred details hide the five priorities

Learn who Allah is, protect your five prayers, understand the essential beliefs, leave clear major sins as you become aware of them, and build good character. Optional details can follow. Islam is a complete way of life, but you learn to live it one faithful layer at a time.

Seven steps—not a seven-day deadline

Move through these in order, repeat what you need and ask for help. The aim is steadiness, not speed.

1

FOUNDATION

Understand the Shahadah

Learn what it means to worship Allah alone and to follow His final Messenger ﷺ. Write the meaning in your own words.

2

PURITY

Practise wudu

Follow the simple sequence until it feels familiar. Ask someone trustworthy to watch once and correct gently.

3

WORSHIP

Learn the prayer movements

Practise standing, bowing, prostrating and sitting. Then add the words in manageable pieces.

4

QUR’AN

Listen to al-Fatihah and read its meaning

Listen, repeat one line and understand what you are asking Allah for. Do not reduce Qur’an to sounds without meaning.

Listen and read Surah al-Fatihah
5

BELIEF

Learn the six foundations of Iman

Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day and Allah’s decree. These give the heart a map of reality.

Hadith of Jibril — Sahih Muslim 8a
6

CHARACTER

Choose one character habit

Tell the truth, keep a promise, control an angry response, help someone or repair a wrong. Faith should begin to beautify conduct.

Build roots before branches

This is a suggested rhythm, not a pass-or-fail programme. Take longer wherever you need it.

WEEK 1

Worship rhythm

  • Practise wudu every day.
  • Learn the prayer times.
  • Work through al-Fatihah gradually.
  • Make a short du‘a after each prayer.

  • Study the six foundations of Iman.
  • Read a simple life of the Prophet ﷺ.
  • Write down questions without shame.
WEEK 3

Life and character

  • Identify urgent changes in daily life.
  • Keep kindness toward family.
  • Learn repentance and forgiveness.
  • Choose one regular good deed.
WEEK 4

  • Find a suitable mosque or class.
  • Arrange a mentor check-in.
  • Create a realistic Qur’an routine.
  • Review what helped and simplify.

From Islam, to Iman, toward Ihsan

The Prophet ﷺ explained the religion through three connected dimensions. They are not trophies you finish; they grow together throughout life.

01

الإسلام

Islam

Sincere surrender expressed in action

  • Testify to the Shahadah
  • Establish the five prayers
  • Give obligatory charity when due
  • Fast Ramadan
  • Perform Hajj when able

Ask: What does obedience to Allah look like in my day?

02

الإيمان

Iman

Faith and conviction rooted in the heart

  • Believe in Allah
  • His angels
  • His revealed books
  • His messengers
  • The Last Day
  • Divine decree, its good and difficult

Ask: How does this belief change the way I see life?

03

الإحسان

Ihsan

Excellence, sincerity and awareness of Allah

Worship Allah with the awareness that He sees you.

  • Be present in prayer
  • Choose sincerity over appearance
  • Do what is beautiful even unseen
  • Treat people with mercy and justice

Ask: Who am I when only Allah knows?

Prayer strengthens faith. Faith gives prayer meaning. Ihsan beautifies both.

أَلَا بِذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ ٱلْقُلُوبُ

In the remembrance of Allah, hearts find comfort.

Qur’an 13:28

Faith is not a straight emotional line

Strong days and difficult days can both be part of a sincere Muslim life. What matters is learning how to return.

I do not feel spiritual all the time

Even the Companions noticed that their spiritual intensity changed when they returned to family, work and ordinary life. The Prophet ﷺ did not call this hypocrisy; he taught balance and regular return to remembrance.

Sahih Muslim 2750a
I sinned after becoming Muslim

Do not let one sin become two by adding despair. Stop, regret it, ask Allah to forgive you, repair another person’s rights where necessary and make a plan not to return. Then continue doing good.

I am overwhelmed by rules and opinions

Return to priorities. Learn obligations before optional disputes, and take personal rulings from a knowledgeable, patient teacher who understands your circumstances. Do not let short social-media clips become your only teachers.

Sahih al-Bukhari 39
I have difficult questions or doubts

A sincere question is not a betrayal. Write it down, ask someone who listens carefully and examine the evidence. Hiding questions can allow anxiety or unreliable online voices to control the conversation.

Ask without judgement

Every sincere step matters

In a hadith qudsi, Allah tells us that when His servant comes nearer to Him, Allah grants even greater nearness and welcome.

Sahih al-Bukhari 7405

Islam asks you to belong to Allah—not to imitate an ethnicity

Your language, background and lawful parts of your culture do not make you less Muslim. Honour comes through faith and righteousness, not race or tribe.

Qur’an 49:13

Keep family ties with wisdom

Disagreement about faith does not cancel kindness. The Qur’an teaches respectful companionship with parents even when one cannot obey them in matters of worship.

Share at a safe pace

You do not have to turn every family conversation into a debate. Let them see patience, honesty and care. If disclosure could put you at risk, seek confidential support and make a safety plan first.

You do not need a new personality

Islam refines your beliefs, worship and choices. It does not require a borrowed accent, cultural costume or the erasure of every harmless part of your past.

Your name may already be fine

Becoming Muslim does not automatically require a new name. A name with a meaning contrary to Islam may need review; ask a qualified scholar about your particular case.

No one gains control over you because you became Muslim

No one should pressure you for marriage, money, personal documents, secrecy, private meetings or obedience to them. Verify teachers, meet safely, involve trusted people and speak up when something feels wrong.

Things many new Muslims quietly worry about

You are not the first person to ask these questions, and you do not need to be ashamed of them.

Am I really forgiven for my life before Islam?

The Prophet ﷺ explicitly taught that Islam wipes away what came before it. Begin with hope and gratitude, while still acting responsibly about debts, property or rights owed to other people.

Sahih Muslim 121
Do I need to know Arabic to be Muslim?

No. Islam is for every people and language. Learn the essential Arabic recitations for prayer gradually, while reading and understanding the Qur’an in a language you know.

Must I change everything immediately?

Begin immediately with the foundations and any urgent obligations, but do not confuse urgency with panic. Learn in a sensible order, seek trustworthy advice and build changes that can last.

What if my family objects?

Remain courteous, avoid unnecessary arguments and show the effect of Islam through patience and good conduct. Do not obey anyone in worshipping other than Allah, but continue kindness and fair dealing.

What if I do not feel different after the Shahadah?

Not every sincere turning point produces an instant emotional experience. Continue praying, learning and asking Allah for firmness. The reality of faith is deeper than a passing feeling.

Is it normal for faith to feel stronger some days?

Yes. The Companions spoke about changes in spiritual intensity, and the Prophet ﷺ taught a balanced rhythm. The answer is not despair; it is regular return.

Sahih Muslim 2750a
Do I need to announce my Islam publicly?

You may choose to take the Shahadah publicly for community support and documentation, but do not put yourself in danger. If family, housing or personal safety is a concern, seek confidential advice before disclosure.

Can I ask difficult or sensitive questions?

Yes. Ask sincerely and seek evidence from people who combine knowledge with patience. You should never be mocked, pressured or silenced for needing to understand.
